The Department of Minimally Invasive Neurosurgery is headed by Assistant Professor Vassilios Vougioukas and covers the entire surgical spectrum of diseases concerning the brain and neurosurgical diseases of the spine.

He specializes in Neuro-oncology and especially in minimally invasive surgical techniques. He has published dozens of research papers in this field, in prestigious scientific journals. He has performed plethora of minimally invasive brain and spine surgeries in Greece. He remains the only Greek neurosurgeon to teach at Medtronic’s pan-European seminars on minimally invasive spine surgery.

Vassilios Vougioukas is an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery (Privatdozent) at the University of Freiburg (Germany), Doctor of the Medical School of the University of Göttingen (Germany) and Director of the Neurosurgery Clinic with a special focus on Minimally Invasive Brain and Spine Surgery at the Athens Medical Center (Maroussi-Psychiko).  Since September 2020 he has been in charge of the Neurosurgery Department of Osteon Clinic.
After basic training (1999-2005) in Neurosurgery at the University Clinics of Berlin and Freiburg, he was Chief Physician (Oberarzt) and Head of the Department of Minimally Invasive Brain and Spine Surgery at the University Clinic of Freiburg (2005-2010). Since 2007 he has been an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Freiburg.
