Georgios A. Mazis

Mr. Mazis holds a PhD from the Medical School of University of Athens (EKPA). He is also Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals, London, United Kingdom. He is a consultant in Osteon Department of Upper Limb and Hand Surgery.
 
He is a graduate of the Medical School of Athens (2003 – National Kapodistrian University of Athens, grade “Very Good”).
 
He completed the rural service in 2004 (Kandanos, Chania, Crete) and his internship in General Surgery (2004-2005, Lesvos).
 
He then fulfilled his military obligations in 2006, serving in the Medical Corps as a Hoplite Doctor.
 
He is specialized in Orthopedic Surgery & Traumatology at the 1st Orthopedic Clinic of the University of Athens, having served alongside leading surgeon professors (2007-2012).
 
In January 2011 he received the Master of Science (MSc) in “Metabolic Bone Diseases” after two years of attendance and presentation of his dissertation with a grade of “Excellent”.
 
In January 2014, he was awarded the Ph.D degree of the University of Athens with a grade of “Excellent”, after completing his dissertation on: “Comparative study of extra-articular arthrodesis of the tarsal joint and heel extension osteotomy in children with spastic flat-foot in the context of cerebral palsy”, under the supervision of the Professor of Orthopedics Mr. Panagiotis N. Soukakos.
 
In October 2014, after having succeeded in examinations he became a “Fellow of the European Board of Orthopedics and Traumatology”.
 
Since 2012 he is dedicated to his specialty, Upper Limb Surgery, as well as to the principles of medical science and ethics, having received retraining in leading centers in the United Kingdom.
 
He served as a Senior Post CCT Clinical Fellow, 2015, in the field of Upper Limb Surgery at the Royal Berkshire Hospital NHS, Reading, Berkshire, UK, under the guidance of Professor Ofer (inspirer and designer of reverse total arthroplasty VERSO) who along with Steve Copeland (inspirer and designer of Copeland’s shoulder resurfacing arthroplasty) have been worldwide pioneers in global Upper Limb Surgery.
 
He then served as Senior Post CCT Clinical Fellow, 2016, at the Royal National Orthopedic Hospital, Stanmore, in Upper Limb and complex Shoulder and Elbow Arthroplasty Surgery, under the guidance of Simon Lambert, and Ian Bayley (inspirer and designer of total Bayley Walker shoulder arthroplasty).
 
He has been a member of the British Elbow and Shoulder Society since 2015.
 
Since October 2016 he is an examiner at Queens Hospital Clinical FRCS (Orth) Course.
 
He holds the position of Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon since January 2017 at the University Hospitals of Barking, Havering and Redbridge, London (capacity of 1000 beds).
 
He is a member of many Greek and foreign scientific committees and organizations and remains academically active, Phd holder from University of Athens, having numerous publications of articles and pioneering surgical techniques, in scientific journals and reviews abroad. He is also involved in the writing and translation of orthopedic books.
