Vassilios Vougioukas is an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery (Privatdozent) at the University of Freiburg (Germany), he received a PhD from the University of Göttingen (Germany) and he is the Director of the Neurosurgery Clinic with expertise in Minimally Invasive Brain and Spine Surgery at Athens Medical Center (Marousi- Psychiko). Since September 2020 he has been in charge of the Neurosurgery Department of Osteon Clinic.
After his basic training (1999-2005) in neurosurgery, at university clinics in Berlin and Freiburg, he served as head physician (Oberarzt) and was in charge of the department of minimally invasive brain and spine surgery in the university clinic of Freiburg (2005-2010).
He specializes in Neurology and especially in minimally invasive surgical techniques. He has published dozens of papers regarding this field, in prestigious scientific journals. He has performed the majority of the minimally invasive brain and spine surgeries in Greece. He remains the only Greek neurosurgeon who teaches minimally invasive spine surgery techniques in pan-European seminars of Medtronic.
